18-06-08: Bangkok prison inmate and underfeated 122-pounder Pathomchoke Pathompothong (12-0) will challenge for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific Junior featherweight title against William Reyk (6-1-3) of Indonesia on Friday at Nakhonpathom Province, Thailand. The 25-year-old Pathomchoke, who had an amateur boxing background in school, was sentenced to six years in Nakhonpathom prison for conviction of being a drug carrier at age 19. In the Nakhonpathom Prison, Patomchoke began his pro career in September 2006 with promoter Jimmy Chaichotchuang and has scored 12 straight victories. His opponent William Reyk (6-1-3) lost a close decision to WBA featherweight contender Zaiki Takemoto (22-7-2), a former challenger of Chris John.
"I'm looking forward to this fight on Friday against Reyke," Pathomchoke said. "It's my dream to become a future world champion." Promoter Jimmy Chaichotchuang added, "I see a lot of potential in Pathomchoke....he is due to be released from Nakhonpathom Prison in July, 2008." Pathomchoke would be first Thai male prison boxer to become international boxing champion. Siriporn Taweesuk became the first Thai female prison boxer who get the WBC world title. Pathompothong-Reyke will be televised throughout Thailand on the Channel Seven network.
